Location: Nansana, Uganda
Due to the success of our last visit, we believe that God has much for us to do. This past summer gave us a snapshot of the living situations of the women there. Many are scattered across town, living with family members, friends or distant relatives, sometimes in homes packed with 8 or more people. Often, peace and quiet was hard to come by, let alone an atmosphere of encouragement for the full pursuit of the things of God. After many late night discussions with some leaders in the church, we decided that it was time to open a Grace Women Home. This home would be located on "the hill" and headed up by one of the more mature ladies in the church who would act as a covering and encouragement for the other ladies living there; eating, drinking and sleeping with the disciples, as Christ did when He walked the earth.
Though Grace Women will fund the initial start-up and operation costs, our goal is that within 5 years, the home would be self-sustaining. We would like to set up a canteen up on "the hill" where each one of the ladies will work for certain hours of the week. There are many schools within the vicinity and very few places to eat and buy small goods, so the opportunity should be ripe with the proper leadership and organization.
Separately, we also found that the ladies had a growing desire to reach out to the other women in their areas but sensed a lack of practical wisdom or experience in doing so. Therefore, during our next trip, we will focus on the following:
- Set up of the Grace Women Home and canteen.
- Part 2 of the class on Women in Discipleship that was taught over the summer. Classes will be taught every Tuesday and Thursday for one month.
- Three weekend trips with the ladies to neighboring villages in Uganda for practical training in ministry.
